Successfully completed semester long project. Project deliverables include complete reverse engineering with accurate measurements of each component in this automatic hard driller, solidworks modelling and mating parts toleranced to ANSI standard for limits and fits. The assignment consisted of deciding on an item in order to model it using Solid Works. After researching various possibilities a hard driller was selected. This specific driller was chosen because of its unique features and the challenges it presented to the team. It has an unconventional overall form, and once the team deformed it completely, it was observed that a lot of small details from inside surfaced. During the process of modeling each separate part as well as doing the assembly, the team encountered several obstacles that were resolved with trial and error, teamwork and cooperation. The process of modeling the two main parts of the driller was very complex. There were various challenges while modeling it including the amount of features it had, taking their measurements and the angles of the different drawing planes and body faces. In order to be accurate, the team took the measurements with a digital caliper. However, challenges were faced when measuring the interior of the driller as there were many more small and numerous parts with a lot of details. The assembly of the driller is important because every fit between parts depends on the main body’s features, if not located correctly with respect to one another, the entire assembly would not work. Also, there were features in the model that interfered with the measuring tools used; making it difficult to get the actual measurements needed. Lastly, the body’s faces were located at various different angles increasing the level of difficulty for sketching the model. |

This case study was designed to challenge our concepts behind retirement planning and investments to help Elton prepare for retirement. The case study also taught Elton some of the basic concepts behind company financial statement analysis. Finally, the team submitted its semester long stock portfolio assignment which ranked 6 in the class. Independent research to answer a series of qualitative and quantitative questions was necessary. |

Throughout the semester, achieving excellent writing skills was Elton's goal. This was achieved with the Internet Resource Guide. Elton, being an Industrial Engineer who wants to help students chose to draft an Internet Resource Guide for lower class Penn State Students. He believes it would help him be a better mentor and help others as well. Visual presentation, writing style, word positioning, and formatting were some of the skills acquired. Engineering Design 100 For this project, the goal was to create an alternative power source to charge a mobile device on the go. The final design ended up being a generator that fit into the sole of a boot, and this was created to charge the phones of hikers during their trips. The team found the design to be very successful in meeting the objectives of an alternative power source, and believe it could be a life-saver for any hiker on their own in the wilderness. This class was the continuation of IE 327 but focused on worker productivity and safety. One of the case studies' conducted in this class was related to safety and how important it is. The team members and Elton chose to perform the study on the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. This case study helped with the understanding of security issues and the importance of OSHA standards. In addition, this case study further enhanced the team’s knowledge in analyzing a situation and weigh the costs and benefits of maintaining by cost-benefit analysis and improving safety incidents in the past. After suggesting and analyzing different alternatives, it was concluded that the right decision was not made on the engineers' part which lead to such a catastrophic $2 billion loss and not to forget loss of a city. |

The transportation system at Penn State, the CATA bus system has been unreliable in terms of when the bus arrives at its respected stop and hence Elton and his team decided to simulate the bus route, particularly the white loop. After data collection, experiments through SIMIO were conducted to conclude the optimal number of buses needed, as well as understand the correlation between the number of buses and the average time in system. After complete analysis, the team concluded that an optimal number of 5 buses would be ideal and to increase the capacity of each bus to 150 from 100. Final Report |

One of the most interesting classes taken, this is part of the Six Sigma minor and gave Elton an understanding of Green Lean Six Sigma which was demonstrated for the project. Team partner Milko, and Elton based the case analysis on Apple and its green efforts. A DMAIC approach was used because the process already existed. This helped the team measure and analyze the tech giant using a Fishbone analysis with the help of Quality Companion from which the team realized that Apple has been doing a great job of not using harmful chemicals and toxins to preserve the environment. The team concluded that manufacturing accounted to majority of the carbon emissions and would need to reduce that by various methods such as educating employees, reducing use of coal fired plants, and using different materials. Unlike any other class, Engineering Analytics was one of a kind and so was its project. Successfully completed 67 page report of makeshift retail store MaxMart for data handling and data manipulation. Project deliverables included creating a database with provided transaction data, and demographics data along creating meaningful queries by use of SQL, predictive analysis, moving average of data, regression analysis to predict weekly sales, and k-means clustering to find the items most commonly purchased. Elton worked on brainstorming and designing of queries along with the regression analysis. In conclusion, information such as who purchased the most items every week, what were common items among people, what items pertained to certain ethnicity were observed and noted. MaxMart Project |

Given the opportunity to start a business by brainstorming and creation of a business plan, Team members and Elton decided to do something completely different which would be challenging but rewarding. There's been new hype about the sharing business economy and due to that the team decided to pursue an idea on car sharing. Recursive rentals, a car sharing business, seeks car owners who travel for a week or more to a destination by flight and be willing to give Recursive rentals their car for that period of time in return for free parking and funds. Based on this, Elton was in charge of company operations from finding out how much money to give each car owner to running the business. Recursive Rentals Business Plan |
